The Bahamas are an extraordinary
Island that contains a lot of ancient culture traditions, mixed nationality, unique
food, and a burst of originality from coast to coast. The Bahamas were originally
discovered by European Explorer Christopher Columbus in 1492. Earlier years in
the Bahamas were very harsh due to European settlement. In the year 1973 was a
time for change within the Bahamas. The reason being was the Bahamas regained
full control of what was rightfully theirs to begin with. Year 1973 was the
mark for total independence and freedom within the Island. Today the Island is
visited with more than millions of tourist each year due to its beautiful
landscape and remarkable landmarks. The Climate there is tropical marine and
contains clear warm waters of the Gulf Stream. The nationality there is mainly
African American by 90.6%. The other ethics groups would include Caucasian by
4.7%, African American and Caucasian by 2.1%, other by 1.9%, and unspecified by
0.7%. One Interesting fact about Citizenship in the Bahamas is that you
naturally don’t have to be born in the Bahamas to be a national citizen. So in
other words anybody living in the Bahamas at this second is considered a
national citizen. In the Bahamas there are specifically only two main languages
used. The two main languages spoken in the Bahamas is English and second being
Creole from among Haitian immigrants living in the Bahamas. Today the Bahamas
are one of the wealthiest Caribbean countries. Their economy alone is heavily
dependent on tourism and offshore banking. Tourism together with tourism-driven
construction and manufacturing accounts for 60% of GDP. Tourism in the Bahamas employs
half of a single strip of Islands labor force. Today the Bahamas are the number
one place to visit while on the holidays. The Island continues to grow as more
and more come to visit this breathtaking Island.
